[26 Jun 2007|08:47pm]

Hi all! I Just joined the community. It seems like it's pretty quiet here, but I thought I'd post anyway. I love getting new ideas for workout music, and I've gotten some good ideas from reading previous entries here. I also ran across a few lists online of good workout songs:
The Fitness Magazine Top 100 Workout Songs
Self Magazine playlists (I think these lists are updated fairly often with new people featuring their lists)

I use my iPod mini for my workouts, and I have about 80 songs on my playlist. I do cardio on the elliptical machine and cool down with walking on the treadmill. Some of my favorite songs behind the cut...Collapse )

New Music? [03 Apr 2007|11:52am]
[ mood | calm ]

Hi, everyone. This community hasn't been too active lately so I wanted to know what you all are listening to these days. I am getting sick of my old mix which was mostly comprised of suggestions from this community so I wanted to get some new mix ideas. Help!

Hey, I recently joined. Seems noone really posts here anymore but you should!

Have any of you heard of the ministry of sound dance workouts? They have brilliant soundtracks.

If anyone owns them why not rip and upload them for others. I may do that as I have one so let me know if you want me to upload it.

And if you have any dance workouts you can share (rip and upload them) then let me know!

good, CLEAN workout music? [28 Dec 2006|07:14pm]

[ mood | guilty ]

hello! i'm glad to see this community has picked up a bit recently, because i am in need of some help.

i'm a new instructor at my local YMCA. i'm teaching spinning, aka group cycling (see my icon for an idea of what the class is like). i burn CDs for the classes, and as i teach twice a week, i'm in constant need of new music.

also, tonight i got a criticism about some of my music having too much foul languange and sexual content and i was humiliated. some of the best workout beats these days have bad lyrics, and sometimes i don't even notice (being mid-twenties and oblivious to this stuff).

so obviously, i'm going to pay attention to this and make sure that my future cd's are squeaky clean. it IS the YMCA, you know. and therefore... i need some suggestions!

what are some good workout songs that have totally clean lyrics?

the type of music i need generally falls into these catagories:

- fast tempo for flats or for standing and going fast - example: "proud mary" or even slightly slower than that.
- really fast tempo for sprints - example: "ready, steady, go" from those car commercials
- really slow tempo for high resistance/hills - example: "survivor" by destiny's child - though that might border on offensive? i dunno.

i'm pretty good with warm ups & cool downs, no complaints there.

thanks in advance for your help!

I spent 10 years as an aerobics instructor before retiring in 1997 at age 36. I saw a lot that developed in the workout world in that 10 years. I blew out my knees thanks to intense high-impact. I never warmed up to step-aerobics for 2 reasons: I found it boring, and my surgically-repaired knees did not react well anyway. So the high/low impact aerobic dance combo has been the workout that I have most enjoyed and that my body best accepts.

This is a compilation of the songs that worked best (and that my classes loved the most) for my workout routines over the years, and that are working for me now that I am preparing workout routines exclusively for myself:

"Miss Me Blind" - Culture Club
"The Reflex" (album version) - Duran Duran

"I'm Your Man" - Wham!
"I Saw Her Standing There" - Beatles
"She's On The Zoom" - Don Henley (from the Vision Quest soundtrack)
"Footloose" - Kenny Loggins
"Baby I'm A Star" - Prince
"I Ran" - A Flock of Seagulls
"Dance Dance Dance" - Beach Boys
"Authority Song" - John Mellencamp

"Do Ya Wanna Funk" - Sylvester
"Rumble Seat" - John Mellencamp
"I Never Promised You A Rose Garden" - Kon Kan
"Notorious" - Duran Duran
"Rock-A-Lott" - Aretha Franklin
"I Don't Want Your Love" (12" version) - Duran Duran
"Lost Your Number" - Nu Shooz
"Big Time" - Peter Gabriel

"Just Like Rain" - Glenn Medeiros
"Save A Prayer" - Duran Duran

Sorry, but the previous link about Britney was wrong. Here is correct one...

[05 Apr 2006|07:39pm]

New P!NK album. I downloaded it JUST for the workout (on iTunes, RELAX RECORD COMPANY), and I like what I'm hearing. MUCH better than "Try This."

If you're active in this community and notice posts, please reply to this message.

I just happened to notice that no one has replied to any of the most recent 7 posts. WTF people. This community has SO much potential! We all get great music suggestions for hitting the gym, and no one gets fat! Well... I can't speak for myself. Heh. *cries* I haven't been in FOREVER. I miss it.

So everyone reply to this post, and suggest 5 songs for workout music playlists

It will be a fun little experiment. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

It took me awhile to find out what the HELL that awesome itunes/cingular song is (where the girl is boppin' down the street and stops her music to answer her phone ) but I finally downloaded -- I mean BOUGHT -- it. It's "No Sleep" by The Faders and it's on the Veronica Mars soundtrack, even though I'll bet their whole CD is okay since I like that cheesy girl punk crap.

It's great for working out. I think it samples "Lust for Life" which is also good for working out.

Collective Soul put out a record in '04??! [19 Sep 2005|12:59pm]

I guess they did, and there is a song on there called "Better Now" which is a good workout song. Proof? It's on a Special K commercial where a lady loses weight by replacing two meals a day with a bowl of cereal.

Yeah right, Kellogg's. But the song is really good for power walking.

Goldfrapp is really good to workout to. Try to find "Ride A White Horse" or "Strict Machine."

I have both and a high speed internet connection, not that I condone illegal filesharing. WINK.

Hello, oh-so quiet but wonderful community, I'm new. I've had this comm in my bookmarks for ages but never got around to joining.

Anyway, the following tracks have been on my gym playlist lately; if anyone would like any of them uploaded post a comment. Don't judge me, ok?

Warm up/cool down:
Seal - My Vision
Sia - Sunday
R Kelly - Happy People

When I MOVE:
Sugababes - Hole in the Head (a spin class favourite)
Ricky Martin - Loaded (another spin class hit)
Benny Benassi - California Dreaming (remix - great for treadmill/running)
Kane - Rain Down On Me (remix)
Armand Van Helden - U Don't Know Me
Mount Sims - How We Do
Planet Funk - Inside All The People
Snap - Rhythm Is A Dancer (the fact that this song rhymes 'cancer' with 'dancer' is reason enough for it to be part of everyones music collection)

A new addition to the mix... [07 Aug 2005|08:23pm]

As much as it pains me to say it, Paris Hilton's single Screwed is pretty damn good to workout to. Don't judge me.

"Whoop! better get a witness! All up and in your buisness!" [27 Jul 2005|01:56am]

[mood| energetic]
[music| Hot Action Cop - Samuel Jackson]

This community doesn't get much action, does it? Damn shame, it has great potential! What's better than workout music? SHARING workout music and getting NEW workout Music. Nothing like fresh motivation.

So I figured I'd take it upon myself and take initiative and all that good stuff, and post my current workout mix. (btw, did anyone download the songs from my last post? (Hot Action Cop - Samuel Jackson, Linkin Park - Figure 9)

So lets all post our current workout beats (hotdamn I need to get an IPOD. I really hate it when my cd player skips when I'm on the treadmill. gerrr) I present you, my fellow gym slaves, with my most recent workout cd mix. Live long and prosper... or something. I know some of my shit is really corny, but hey, I've got ADD of the laziness kind. I was NEVER able to keep my ass on a cardio machine for more than 5 minutes without "LOOK! A TREE!" and wandering off. SO, ah hell. Never underestimate the power of avril lavigne on cardio. I just pretend I'm running away from HER... same for ashlee simpson.

1. Fatboy Slim - Right Here, Right now
2. Britney Spears - Stronger
3. Clinic - The Equalizer
4. Eminem - Lose Yourself
5. The Donnas - Fall Behind Me
6. Saliva - Your Disease
7. Foo Fighters - Times like These
8. Britney Spears - Toxic
9. Hot Action Cop - Samuel Jackson
10. Apollo Four-Forty - Cold Rock the Mic
11. N.E.R.D. - Rockstar (Jason Nevins Mix)
12. Britney Spears - My Prerogative (I don't she even knows what 'Prerogative' means!)
13. Linkin Park - Figure 9/Lost (S.W.A.T. theme)
14. Avril Lavigne - Happy Ending (*hides from objects being thrown*)
15. Britney Spears - Crazy (Stop Remix)
16. Ashlee Simpson - La La (*hides from objects being thrown... again*)
17. Usher - Yeah
18. The Donnas - Play My Game
19. Eminem - Without Me
20. Imperial Teen - Ivanka
21. Britney Spears - Me Against the Music
22. Saliva - Superstar

"whoop! gotta hold my whiteness, don't mess with all this tightness!" [19 Jul 2005|01:02am]

[mood| energetic/bouncy as HELL]

[music| Hot Action Cop - Samuel Jackson]

Hey, I know no one prolly had a chance to look at this, but I DID link ya'll to uploads for the songs, as suggested in one of the previous posts.

Hey, everyone!

I happened to notice that this community doesn't get a lot of posts.

I thought I'd make a couple suggestions for dope workout beats which I happen to find VERY motivating. Shit, it's 1am and I'm all amped up for the gym... even though I'm still recovering from going today (did WAY too much arms stuff... so I like fell against my car when I got out... Kind've like barney, useless arm/limbs)

Anyhoo. My suggestions -

Linkin Park - Figure 09
Figure 09

Hot Action Cop - Samuel Jackson
Samuel Jackson

Both from S.W.A.T. I know it's an ubercorny movie, but I made the mistake of watching it before bed, and now I can't fall asleep!

Shit, any song that goes: (see below) is BOUND do to a little somethin in the movitation department.

I can upload the song to a "you send it" link if anyone is interested. (and the Linkin Park swat song too)

"Yo, we gotta start this mission
Hot action wont be dissin'
Big dog is off the colla'
Gonna hear ya'll schemers holla
Oh, better get a witness
all up and in yo business

you be like 'Yeah? But who be?'
Wanna play when the man got you-be"

"drug delaers, thugs, and villains
hopped up on cash and dealin'
yo, better watch your back now
hop! take bob-o for smack down
whoop! gotta hold my whiteness
dont mess with all this tightness

yo! you better check your mirror
hot action's gettin' nearer"

If anyone was wondering, Samuel Jackson does NOT rap or sing at any point in the song. My friend wondered, so I figured I'd cover my bases.

New to the community but not to the gym [05 Jul 2005|12:28am]

[ mood | jubilant ]

Hey, I'm new here, to the community.. Def not a newcomer to the gym!

My gym is not only filled with motivation-killing music, but strange locals who I often try to estimate their criminal record... most are prospective sex offenders. Does anyone else just get that "yikes, get the flip away from me!" vibe from the peeps at their gym? I guess, since I only pay 24 bucks a month, I shouldn't be bitching.

I'm so glad I found a workout msuic community! My "work out" cds often have the same theme of songs and after a while, they get kind've monotonous... still beats the temptations though!

I don't know what the "entry post requirements" are, if there is such a thing for this community, but whatev.

AMEN: "It is our contention that America is fat because of the music gyms insist on poisoning their patrons' motivation with. The moderator was a member at a gym who only played the slow motown station. She dares you to run a mile to The Temptations."

Anyhoo, I'm out!
